Muscles Kneaded Massage

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissue Massage is a healing technique that focuses on specific deeper layers of muscle tissue and may cause soreness during or after the session. However, if the massage is done correctly you will feel better than ever within a day or two. Its aim is to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and direct deep pressure on the contracted areas and on the body’s connective tissue, (fascia), which wraps, binds, supports, and separates all the internal structures, including the skeletal muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, and organs. Deep tissue massage manipulates the fascia, breaking down chronic tension, that obstructs the flow of energy and life force throughout the whole body.

It is common for soreness a day or two following your deep tissue massage even if you did not feel the pressure was to much. This is called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness and is due mainly to metabolic byproducts being removed from the muscles. This indicated massage was needed and a follow-up appointment is a good idea.

Why get a Deep Tissue Massage?

It is beneficial to your health. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. A deep-tissue massage loosens muscle tissue, releases toxins, and gets blood and oxygen circulating properly. Deep tissue massage breaks up and eliminates scar tissue, restores structural alignment and balance within the body by releasing chronic tension and increases postural ease and movement. Connective tissue (fascia) is present throughout the entire internal structure of the body and when the body is free of trauma ( injury) and tension, the fascia is generally elastic, but if the system is sluggish or inactive, fascia can become rigid and immobile. Since connective tissue envelops and connects every internal structure, tension in one area can have a detrimental effect on the whole system. The purpose is to “unstick” the fibers of a muscle while releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, removing toxins, and relaxing and soothing the muscle. It is both corrective and healing.
